The University Information Services provides IT facilities and IT Infrastructure for academic and administrative use across the University. We are looking for an apprentice to join our Network division which provides a variety of widely-deployed IT services across the entire University of Cambridge, including city-wide fibre optic infrastructure, a data network, wireless services, security firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and voice-over-IP (VOIP) telephone systems. Together they provide data network services for over 30,000 staff and students.
This role is perfect for those who are early into their career and have a passion and genuine enthusiasm for starting a career in IT with a focus in networking. Throughout the apprenticeship you will be trained to work and learn with each of the University's Network Division team's Network Systems for switching and routing technologies, Network Installations, Telecoms and Wireless, and Security Engineering. They will become familiar with the core concepts and technologies in each area, trained in the systems used and help to install and configure new sections of network infrastructure to University colleges, departments and data centres. These technologies include Cisco, FortiNet, and Aruba.
The role requires an A-Level/NVQ L3 vocational qualification, or equivalent, and at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) of grades A*-C (or new grading of 4-9) including Maths, English and Science or IT. It also requires excellent interpersonal skills, a strong willingness to learn and an ability to work under pressure. This includes team work using initiative and accuracy.
